and now he's kicking up dirt
but that earth holds tight
but sometimes he feels it fall right out from underneath
him...like some hero in a
bad film...
just like
hell...he says. it was hell
this i remember
and this I know
enough of that!
...a voice from the future
hollers back...
best not give that much energy!
the doors fly
open and the press
rush in...asking questions
of the hero
...did you go at it alone...
no...the hero shook his head...there was a girl
...was?.......a girl?.....
the hero nodded...is...is a girl
they write this down
yelling out follow ups
not looking up
and the hero slips out...

careful where you step sonny...
the voice spoke to the boy

sounds of action films
at my
back...
the air screamed summer
and they were spring
and he could still smell her

he is watching the television
in the other room
through the mirror on the
...wall ...eyes adjusting to the
reverse...the hero
narrowly escapes
a room of assassins
disguised as members of the
press
and stopped
dead
in his tracks
smack dab in front
a huge hole
that just swallowed a
young man hole...
a man beside the hole
who looked just like him said
can't say I didn't warn him....
this movie fades into a dream
because he's already
went upstairs....he's already seen it.
