he wakes up to a house on fire
zombies ohming in the grass
passing rum, and telling riddles
...with no punchlines
the sun drips like a raw egg
and the trees are growing downward
we crawl to the river
and wait for the moon

the marsh speaks in farts
we get drunk from it's responses
and vomit when it gets angry
and then I see things

haven't slept since i last heard that voice
i grounded my bed
and i sent it to it's room...without the televison
and if i hear
what's for dinner
one more time
I'll scream...it's hard to believe all of this came from nothing. so i suspect it was only invisible here before, here the whole time, and when i got those new eyes...it all came alive like theatre

who shot the king
who gave me his crown
and why did he bleed chocolate???

they skip rope with the vines
and crack skulls, like foolish lovers
they audience sighs
like we are expected
at such a touching moment
this distraction allows us
to sneak away so we can paint the sky jet black

as I reached the top of the hole
hoe in hand
i push the dirt inward
and cover them all over

and see them again come harvest...
